Sir John Cass Sixth Form Digital Brochure - page 8

The Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS) is the
admission service for all students applying to University and
college. At Sir John Cass Red Coat Sixth Form College all
Year 13 students are encouraged to apply to University, and
we start the decision making process in Year 12.
To help with this decision, the sixth form hosts a number of
university fairs to allow students an opportunity to speak
to ambassadors from a range of universities about the
courses offered to undergraduates. You are encouraged
to get involved in university taster courses, lecture evenings,
open days and summer schools. Speakers from universities
are often invited in to talk to students and help them with
information related to applying to university. This includes
help with writing a personal statement, advice on what
universities look for in their applicants, and information
about student finance.
We also offer a two-year programme of support and
development to prepare select students for applications
to Oxbridge and to study medicine.
The Sixth Form Ambassador Program has run successfully
for a number of years, it consists of a large body of students
from years 12 and 13. The ambassadors participate in
a number of activities within school, including; Parents’
Evenings, Parents’ Forums, Open Evenings and School Tours,
playing an integral part in the set up and running of such
events. Student Ambassadors are seen as role models and
the face of the Sixth Form, and it is a very prestigious role
amongst students and staff. The programme has given
all involved a number of opportunities to gain valuable
experiences in preparation for university, apprenticeships
or employment.
